Carbon Credits

Carbon credits

Quebec has set a target of reducing emissions by 37,5% below 1990 levels by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 in order to adapt to climate change and strengthen the resilience of Quebec society to its impacts.

By contribute to efforts to combat climate change as outlined in the Paris Agreement (COP 21), SADC-HS is not stranding idly by when it comes to greening out local economy !

She’s committed to supporting entrepreneurs in their transition to a low-carbon economy.

  • Are you an agricultural producer who wants to green up agriculture ?
  • Are you an SME that wants to invest in carbon-related assets ?
  • Do you want to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions ?

We are here to guide you step by step toward achieving your goal.

What Is a Carbon Credit vs. a Carbon Market?

Carbon Credit
A carbon credit is a tradable asset that certifies the reduction or removal of one metric ton of greenhouse gases (GHGs) from the atmosphere. These reductions are achieved through offset projects such as methane destruction at landfill sites or tree planting initiatives that capture carbon through vegetation-based sequestration.

Carbon Market
The carbon market, on the other hand, is a regulatory system in which governments allocate emission permits—also known as quotas—to economic actors for a defined period. Québec has been a pioneer in this field, having established a regulated carbon market in 2013.

Where Do Carbon Credits Come From?
To support the fight against climate change, carbon credits can be issued by:

  • Government entities
  • Public or private organizations

Our joint commitment to this project

SADC du Haut-Saguenay, supported by Les Solutions Will, is leading the Carbon Credit Project in the region. This project enables SMEs to access the voluntary carbon market through carbon reduction initiatives.

Solutions Will provides small emitters (less than 25,000 tonnes of GHG) with the opportunity to have their reduction efforts recognized and monetized.

Objective of the Solutions Will Carbon Program

To democratize access to carbon credits by pooling local greenhouse gas reduction projects carried out by SMEs, municipalities, and non-profits, and to return as much revenue as possible to them from the sale of carbon credits.

Why the Solutions Will Carbon Program…

  1. Combat climate change

  2. Companies’ willingness to reduce their impact

  3. Businesses’ ability to access the carbon market

  4. Interest in decarbonizing their supply chain

  5. Being supported by SADC du Haut-Saguenay
